#1) Diarrablu One Shoulder Maxi Dress
How gorgeous is this blue and white maxi dress by Diarrablu?! I love the color and bold pattern. It’s a one-shoulder dress, which is excellent for inverted triangle body shapes or anyone trying to minimize their shoulders because the asymmetrical neckline makes your upper body look slimmer. The length and flow of the dress are so beautiful and dramatic, and like I always say…I like drama in my clothes, not my life! The dress is designed by African designer, Diarra Bousso. I love that their mission is sustainability while highlighting the African culture. Most of the pieces are produced in Senegal. This dress is also VERY lightweight so it’ll keep you cool and won’t take up much room in your suitcase if you are traveling.
I styled the dress with some platform See by Chloe wedges that are SO comfortable, easy to walk in, and the perfect pair of shoes for summer because of how versatile they are. To add even more drama at the neckline, I added a beautiful Ulla Johnson statement necklace I’ve been wearing on repeat. It’s unfortunately sold out so I linked another stylish option!

#2) L’Agence Chain Shoulder Maxi Dress
Next up is this super chic L’Agence maxi dress. I love everything about it…The rich brown color, unique chain shoulder strap detail, the way it flows, and the feel of the silky satin fabric…it’s seriously a show-stopping maxi dress for summer! Not to mention how forgiving it is. This dress will hide a tummy, no problem! Traveling soon? This lightweight beauty will take up almost no room in your suitcase.
What Shoes To Wear With Maxi Dress?
I styled this maxi with the same See by Chloe wedges, but you could wear some strappy heels or flat sandals depending on your height. I’m 5’4” for reference and the wedges I’m wearing have a 4.25” heel and 2” platform. I know that sounds high, but I promise…the platform actually makes them SO easy to walk in! Some other shoe options to wear with maxi dresses include sneakers for a more casual look, ankle boots for cooler months, or a pair of heels to dress it up.

#3) Johanna Ortiz Linen Midi Dress
Okay, you caught me…this isn’t actually a maxi dress, more of a midi. BUT it’s so chic and stylish that I had to share it! Plus, depending on your height, it could still be a maxi. I’m wearing a chocolate brown midi by Johanna Ortiz that has the brand’s signature ruffle shoulders and crisscross bodice detail. There’s a very small cutout at the waist but the way the dress is constructed you still feel very secure and covered up. There’s smocking in the back and a pretty tie closure. It’s 100% linen so it’s super lightweight and breathable, perfect for staying cool during the spring/summer. I styled it with the same wedges…did I mention they’re versatile? 😉
How To Style A Maxi Dress
If you’re wondering how to wear a maxi dress or how to style a maxi, my biggest tip for summer is to keep it simple. As you can see from the photos above, I went with neutral-colored shoes and minimal jewelry. That’s why summer maxi dresses are SO easy! Depending on where you live, you might need some layering pieces if it gets chilly during spring or summer nights, especially if your maxi doesn’t have long sleeves. Your third layer will change depending on the dress styles. But you could wear your maxi dress with a blazer, moto jacket, jean jacket, cargo jacket, or cardigan. Maxi dresses are wardrobe staples so you should be able to seamlessly mix and match your other wardrobe basics like third layers, shoes, and accessories to create the perfect maxi dress outfit.

Little White Dress
Every woman needs a little white dress…or a white maxi dress! This Free People dress is super lightweight (100% cotton), has beautiful ruffled trim, a square neckline, and adjustable shoulder straps! Dress it up with some strappy heels or down with slides or sneakers.
It’s hard to tell from the graphic by this Jonathan Simkhai dress has a subtle green and white striped pattern. The v-neckline and belted waist are SO flattering and I love the handkerchief hem. It’s technically a midi but the longer part of it makes it a maxi in my eyes!
This bold cobalt blue is very on-trend right now and looks amazing on most skin tones. I love the smocking on the bust and ruffled shoulders. This is one of those dresses you can throw on with sandals to run errands or grab lunch.
If you prefer to cover your chest and decolletage, this is the dress for you! It has a higher neck, beautiful print, ruffled shoulders, and ruching around the waist that helps cinch it in and make you look slimmer.
I LOVE the beaded details on the shoulder of this Alexis dress! The orange print is also really pretty and I can definitely see wearing this on a beach vacation…
Cotton poplin is ideal for spring and summer because it’s super lightweight but a little more structured so it looks crisp and polished. This Moon River dress has really pretty ruffled shoulders, a pleated crisscross bodice, and smocking in the back. I also love the eyelet details at the hem!
Metallics are another big color trend for spring and I love the color combination of the gold threading and the pale yellow on this Sundress maxi! The one-shoulder neckline and smocked bodice are also super flattering.
Here Comes the Sun
This bright yellow color just makes me feel so happy! I also love the halter tie, open back, and flouncy ruffled neckline. This would be beautiful for a wedding, special occasion, or vacation!
On-Trend Utility Style
The utility trend has been a trend for a while so it’s safe to say it’s here to stay! This A.L.C. trench-style dress is SO cool…it has a peek-a-boo pleated skirt, buttons up the front, and fun flap front pockets. Wear it with sandals for lunch or dress it up with strappy heels for dinner.
Gorgeous & Gauzy
This 100% cotton gauzy fabric is a must-have if you’re headed on a beach vacation this spring/summer… it’s super soft, dries quickly, and doesn’t wrinkle during travel. The color is so pretty, the v-neckline is flattering, and the longer sleeves are great if you prefer to cover your arms. And of course, I love the color of this dress too!
Pretty In Pink
If you already have your casual cotton tank dress covered, this is a great next option that’s a little more elevated. It’s a lightweight silky satin material that’s really easy to dress up, but you could also wear it with flat sandals to dress it down. The color is so fun and it drapes beautifully.
Bring on The Drama!
I had to throw in a dramatic maxi dress option too! This taffeta Staud dress is SO beautiful and would be a really fun option for a wedding, special occasion, or to wear to a nice dinner or on vacation. I love the material, flattering v-neckline, adjustable skinny straps, and the gathered tiered seams.
