This year, Inventure Foods reached a $900,000 settlement in a lawsuit brought by a woman in Illinois, who purchased TGI Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks Snacks and later discovered they contained cheddar cheese and no mozzarella. The company responded that a “single statement” on a product’s label cannot be “taken in isolation,” but in December, the judge allowed the suit to continue, saying it was reasonable “that a product labeled ‘Mozzarella Stick Snacks’ with an image of mozzarella sticks would bear some resemblance to mozzarella sticks, which presumably contain some mozzarella cheese,” The Washington Post reported. According to the settlement website, consumers are eligible to receive up to $6 per household if they bought certain TGI Friday’s products between Jan. 1, 2017, and July 31, 2022.
